08:30 AM – Meet your local trekking guide
Duration: 15 minutes
Your adventure begins at your accommodation or an agreed meeting point in Bukit Lawang. Meet your local guide, check your equipment, and receive an introduction to the trekking route. Your guide will explain the forest environment, expected walking conditions, wildlife etiquette, and basic safety procedures.
9.00 AM – Enter the tropical rainforest
Begin walking along the forest trails around Bukit Lawang and the Gunung Leuser National Park area. As you enter the green rainforest, your guide will introduce you to the different layers of tropical vegetation, towering trees, vines, ferns, and other plants that thrive in the humid environment.

Wildlife observation and tracking

10:30 AM – Short rest and tropical fruit break
Take a relaxing break in a suitable location chosen by your guide. Enjoy fresh tropical fruits, if included in your package, and drink water while listening to the sounds of the forest.
This is also an opportunity to ask questions about the rainforest, local culture, wildlife conservation, and daily life in Bukit Lawang.
Return trek toward Bukit Lawang
Begin walking back toward the village with your guide. Depending on the trail conditions and the group’s pace, the return route may pass through additional sections of rainforest or follow a suitable alternative path.

12:00 AM – Finish the jungle trekking experience
Tour ends in Bukit Lawang

1. Can I see orangutans during a 3-hour jungle trek?
There is a chance of seeing orangutans and other wildlife, but sightings cannot be guaranteed. Animals move freely through the forest, and your guide will never guarantee an encounter.
4. Does the tour include river tubing?
River tubing is not automatically included in this three-hour itinerary. If your company offers a tube-rafting return on the Bohorok River, list it as an optional activity or include it only when the route, water conditions, equipment, and timing allow. Some local operators offer this as part of their short treks.
5. Can travelers staying in Medan join this tour?
Yes, but the transfer must be planned separately. Bukit Lawang is approximately 90 kilometres northwest of Medan, and the road journey typically takes around three hours each way.
A three-hour trek is therefore best suited to travelers already staying in Bukit Lawang, or those arranging an overnight visit rather than a same-day return from Medan.
