Bukit Lawang is a village at the of the road bordered with pristine jungle of Sumatra Gunung Leuser National Park. Its about 135 km from North Sumatra International Airport – KNO. Kuala Namu International Airport is the Gateway or Entrance to Indonesia in the Western side of Indonesia. There is immigration office at the international arrival where you could apply for visa on arrival

There is multiple way you could get to Bukit Lawang:

PUBLIC BUS

Go to the Airport train station. On this building there are two exits. Go to the RIGHT EXIT near the INDO MARET shop. There will be a line of busses that goes to multiples places, mainly these busses will go for longer distance, but there are also some busses that goes to the near by city, like BINJAI city.

Take the ALS bus, there should be one lining up on the queue line. There will some people offering their busses service too. The  ALS bus will stop at Binjai city as their last destination. This bus also stop all along the way to drop off some passenger. it will take around 1 hour 30 minutes from the airport to the Binjai city as the last destination.

You need to change to another bus – PEMBANGUNAN SEMESTA bus.  Just go to the road side at the BINAI SUPER MALL, wait for the pembangunan semesta bus on the road side, waive your hand to stop the bus. There is no bus stop for this type of bus. This bus will go all the way to Bukit lawang as their last drop off. This will take about 3 hours from the Binjai city. The bus will constantly stop. Rugged and old busses with lots of squeaky noises. The bus is non air conditioned and some passenger might be smoking inside the bus.

You will need to take a TUK TUK to get to your hotel in Bukit Lawang. The ALS bus would cost 60.000 IDR. The PEMBANGUNAN SEMESTA BUS cost is around 35.000 IDR and TUK TUK will cost 20.000 IDR

PRIVATE TRANPORT or SHARED TRANSPORT

Going by PRIVATE CAR or SHARED CAR organised by Sumatra Tour and Travel  is the easiest way to get to Bukit Lawang. Its faster reliable and more comfortable. We can organised a car to suit your need. Most car will be fit for 4 people with large luggage max. If you need a bigger car or minibus, we could also provide that. The ride from the KNO – AIRPORT to BUKIT LAWANG is about 3.5 Hours ride.  This private car is cost 750.000 IDR. You could evenly if you shared with the other people

AIRPORT TRAIN

Taking train is also possible but strongly not reccomended. The train only goes to Medan City Station. from the city you need to take another transportation to the nearest bus terminal that serve to bukit lawang route. The terminal is called PINANG BARIS TERMINAL, located at the westside end of  the Medan City. Dont go to the terminal, go to the MAWAR BAKERY as the landmark for this area. Those busses ussually standby by this bakery. The Bus is called PEMBANGUNAN SEMESTA. Its very red colouful bus. It will take you directly to the end of the road near Bukit Lawang. Then you need to take TUK TUK or simply just walk to your hotel from the last stop. The Bus would cost about 30.000 t0 40.000 IDR. Or just notify us upon your arrival, we will pick you up.

ONLINE / KONVENSIONAL TAXIS

There are three different option online taxis at the airport. GRAB, MAXIM, GOCAR and Convensional Taxi . They are located at left exit of the Airport Train Station Building. They have stands and very helpful staff assiting with the ordering the car. The rate are very competitive

• Pick up and Transfer back to the Airport : 750.000 IDR | fit 4 px  with luggage| one way
  

• Village Day Tour : 350.000/ person | go around the village by tuk tuk to interact and observe the daily life of the locals. visit the Tofu and tempeh home production, palm leaf and bamboo weaving, try out some the durian fruit or young coconut, observing the palm sugar home production

• Batcave and Landak River: 300.000| person.  It is one hour walking distance from Bukit lawang. A dark cave with very beautiful shape of stalactite and stalagmite rocks. it takes 2 hours to complete the cave tour

• Sumatra Elephant Sanctuary: Get along and participate in one of the Sumatran Elephant activity at the border of the national park Tangkahan. Walk with the elephant to the river trough the Sumatra jungle, then bath the elephant in the river. This activity is 8.30 am and 3.30 pm. For the walking and bathing the elephant, the CRU will charge for 1.000.000 IDR, 600.000 IDR for only bathing the elephant. We will organized the transport to go and back to Bukit lawang village for 1.200.000, IDR. The car fit 4px max. Lunch will be provided

• Volcano Hike Mount Sibayak – BERASTAGI: 500.000 IDR| 2px Min.  You need to be in Beratagi to do this Tour. Climb a magnificent active volcano in Berastagi Region- Mount Sibayak. Suitable almost for everyone. The summit is only 2200 meter. You could do it early in the morning for the sunrise or at anytime during the day. Volcano views  with many Fume Holes all over the crater. Take a dip into the Thermal bath pond at the bottom of the mountain on your way down.
