Ketambe is a village located in the Aceh province of Sumatra, Indonesia. It is situated near the Gunung Leuser National Park, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The village is known for its proximity to pristine rainforests and is a popular starting point for tourists looking to explore the national park, which is home to rare wildlife, including orangutans,sumatran elephant,sumatran tiger and so on.
It receives less tourist compared to Bukit lawang even though it sit in the same National park of Gunung Leuser due to the distance from the closest airport. It takes about 8-9 hours ride from the Northern Sumatra Airport ( Kuala Namu International Airport – KNO). That is also another reason this particular area is more pristine and less explored by tourist. The nature reamins the same for long time.

The main challenges is the weather and the humidity also the terrain. It is mountainous with steep incline. It rains a lot even on sunny day. There are a lot of insect and other creepy and crawly small living creature under the damp and decomposing leaf on the ground floor or attached to the tree or branches. You just need to be aware of it and watch out.
Not just the insects and small creatures, but also the plant you should be careful about. There few types of plant that could easy harm you either by touching it or accidentally poised by the tree liquid.

That is actually our main reason and purpose to go into the gunung leuser national park. It is the last reamin Sumatra Rainforest which is heavily protected from the wood logger and wildlife poacher. We go trekking into the Sumatra Rainforest and live in it for few days or more to observe the wild life on their habitat. Ketambe is really great place for BIRD WATHCING, OBSERVING THE WILD SUAMTRAN ORANG UTAN or Other Wildlife whitin.

HOW TO GET TO KETAMBE

Go to Ketambe with our driver is the safest and most easy to get there. it takes about 8-9 hours ride via Berastagi highland. Stop at the rest area in Berastagi Highland. We offer very competitive and affordable trates. You will get to Ketambe Faster and and hassle free. We will discounted if you combined with the jungletrek and accommodation package.
Go to Ketambe by Public Transport or Shared taxis
First you need to get to medan from the airport or hotel by online taxis, then go to the bus loket or depot ( BTN bus, SEBAYANG bus ). This is public bus that goes to KUTACANE, the nearest and the last stop for the bus. Kutacane you need to get another bus to ketambe. Be aware that there is time limitation time for the bus from medan to kuta cane and also from kuta cane to Ketambe. This option take much longer time and not recommended.
SHARED TAXIS are better than public bus. The car will be more comfortable and also bit faster. this also stop at the Kutacane. You still need to organise transport from kuta cane to ketambe tho. ANUGRAH TRAVEL is a well known company that organise shared taxis to Ketambe. ANUGRAH TRAVEL
GO TO KETAMBE by CONVENTIONAL TAXIS and ONLINE TAXIS
There are a lot of stands for online taxis on your way. Head to airport train station bulding, this is only the way out from the main airport building. Exit to the right you will find the busess that goes to various places. Time table is applied. if you go the left you will find stands for online taxis and offline taxis with argo. There is stand for GRAB GOJEK MAXIM and BLUEBIRD. This is also a good optional way to get to Ketambe with less hassle compared to going public bus. The sales person will help you with the online booking for the taxis. go to one of them. The rate is similiar one to the other. Most driver will charge you double the price since they have to make a comeback to the city with empty passenger
