Mount Sibayak Volcano
Mount Sibayak is an active stratovolcano located in the highlands of Berastagi, North Sumatra, Indonesia. Rising to an elevation of 2,212 meters (7,257 feet) above sea level, this volcano is a popular destination for travelers seeking a moderate, scenic, and safe volcano hiking experience.

Located just 15 kilometers from Berastagi, and about 2.5–3 hours from Medan, Mount Sibayak is one of the most accessible volcanoes in Sumatra.

Nature can be unpredictable. There is many time the peak can be foggy and misty with very chill temperature
There are many mosquitos around medan city. Make sure put on some mosquito spray or repellent. We can obtain the local mosquito repellent in any shop in Medan area. No mosquito in the higher altitude. The DEED max only 13%. If you need higher deed or stronger mosquito repellent, you need to obtain it yourself.
The weather can be unpredictable, a sudden rainy and misty might happened during your trip to the mountain. Be prepared and ready, bring your rain coat and jacket to protect you from the wind and cold temperature during foggy and misty.

1. Pick up from your Hotel in Medan City by 5.30 am – Drive to Berastagi
Our driver will pick you up from your nominated hotel in Medan city by 5.30 or 6.00 am. Drive to Berastagi for breakfast. We should be arrive by 7.30am. Early morning drive should be much faster due to less traffics on the road. Try to catch more sleeps if you could otherwise enjoying the beautiful mountain road terrain with ascending and windy road.
2. Breakfast | Preparation
Arrive by 7.30 am in Berastagi Cool Town. Berastagi is around 1200m above sea level with very cool breeze. Popular places for local tourist for breakfast. There are food stall by the street. We will go for noodle breakfast with hot tea or coffee. Prepare yourself. Bring all the necessary item you need for the climb. Make sure bring enough water for your self. 1 big bottle should be enough for the mountain hike.
3. Transfer to the Trailhead – Drive to the Base camp
From Berastagi, it’s a 20–30 minute drive to the Mount Sibayak base camp, located at an elevation of about 1,500 meters. Most hikes begin from Jalan Jaranguda or Semangat Gunung Village
4. Start the Hike (Approx. 1.5 Hours Ascent)
The trail to the summit is moderately challenging, suitable for beginners in good physical condition. It winds through montane forest, rocky paths, and gradually opens up to volcanic terrain with loose stones and geothermal steam vents.

5. Reach the Summit – Enjoy the Crater Views
We will spend around 2 hours to enjoy the view and explore all the fumaroles and surrounding. Feel free to enjoy your coffee, tea and snacks. The view is amazing and spectacular. The volcanic loose rocky with many fumaroles around the crater with gashing wind blowing out from the fumaroles. There is chance that the peak of this mountain can be misty and foggy, often comes with the drizzle and rain. During misty and foggy with the wind, the temperature drop quite significant. Bringing light rain jacket will help with the chill temperature.

6. Descent to the base camp and drive to the Hot spring (Approx. 1 Hour)
After enjoying the summit, hikers begin their descent back to the base camp. Drive to the Hot spring pond. Feel free to try these bath if you wish to do so. the natural hot spring pools located in Semangat Gunung village, right below Mount Sibayak. These thermal baths are heated by underground volcanic activity and offer a soothing reward after the hike with sulfuric aroma

7. Lunch in Berastagi – Optional
Optional: Lunch Stop in Berastagi (12:30 PM – 01:30 PM)

8. Drive back to Medan and drop off to your hotel (Approx. 2Hour)
Its time to leave Berastagi and drive back to your hotel in Medan City. This trip will take longer than this morning due to the heavier traffics in the afternoon.
